mk2 rear bench

I have got mk2 gti seats in the front of my mk1 golf and i would like to match them in the back.

Will a mk2 golf rear bench fit into a mk1 golf?

Not without modifications. I think all mk2 benches will be the same no matter what. They're a bit taller so struggle to push under the mk1 hooks at the top, and if you manage that, the whole lot is slumped down too far as a result. And there's no way to secure it down at the bottom underneath without mods. However, if you rarely have rear passengers you can place one quite securely so it will LOOK fitted for the sake of matching the fronts. Passengers can belt up safely anyway regardless of the seat, but it will rock about. I don't even think it's an MOT failure (check though!) as long as the fronts are secure. I gave up and put a mk1 bench in the back with a cover on, then kept my mk2 front seats. The mk2 rear bench I've got is immaculate though - I just can't use it! :cry:

recover a mk1 bench, take you about an hour, fits perfectly, loads easier

Projectgolf - do you have any quick guidelines and tips for the procedure of putting the mk2 cover onto a mk1 bench please? I might give it a go, but don't want to trash a good mk2 bench if it's gonna be too tricky!
