mk2 gearbox -will it fit mk1?

will a mk2 5 speed gear box (1800 8v) fit on to a mk1 block (1800 8v)and are the mounts the same. or is it best to source a 5 speed mk1 box?

I think the pre 87 MK2s are the same engines, so presumeably the boxes would fit. Not sure about the later ones though.

I have put a mk3 020 box into a mk1,all the same,mountings will bolt on by swaping the studs over

Yep, they do. Just make sure you get one with 90mm flanges not the 100mm ones. Otherwise you'll have to swap over the flanges.
