MK1 Roll Full Cage options

Hello

I'm Restoring my Mk1 Golf and was planning on putting a roll cage in the cars stripped now so i thought it would be a good time to do it..
has anyone got any pics or suggestions of roll cages i can go for?
I don't want anything to bling. discreet and functional would be nice .

i went for omp cage.

if you have a factory sunroof then have a rethink, the sunroof cassett is in the way so i had to modify the whole cage!!!!

I also followed advice in the RAC MSA blue book (for motorsport) for advice and this gives great info on mounting points etc..

ive seen some terrible installs in the past. bolted to floorpan not the sills.

cages can also clash with the window winders so think about fitting electric windows..

best of luck

Top tip, here's a quote from the VWDRC website, please note this relates to rear engined cars though:

Cars running 8.50secs - 12.99secs to have 6 point roll cage per GSR 4:11

All cars running 14.99secs or quicker with GRP or non metallic "flip fronts" to have 6 point roll cage as per GSR 4:11

All cars running 13.00secs to 14.99secs to have roll bar per GSR 4.10

So it may be worth making the extra effort to find and fit a proper motorsport rollcage, rather than one of these 'show' cages or a home-built thing. That way, if ever you do race the car in the future, you won't have the extra expense of taking out one cage and throwing it away, to fit a proper one.

I've never quite understood show style cages, by the way. A roll cage must make the car quite a PITA to live with day-to-day, and also it adds weight….

my mk1 came with a 6 point bolt in cage, made by safety devices, its kind of discrete and fits around the sunroof, although the roof lining needed taking off.

also you can still fit 3 relitivly average sized people in the back with the cross bar.  There is a bit of moaning at first though.

the tubings about 1 1/2 inch thick maybe a little more
