mk1 golf g60 turbo

Hi, some advice needed!
I have a mk1 golf with a g60 turbo conversion, 2.1 bottom end with forged internals etc etc. Its got a 8v head which is ported and its last dyno run was 199bhp @ the fly. I need more power!!!! whats the next step to go? bigger turbo? i think its a t3 thats on it at the mo, and it has a merc sprinter intercooler. Can i fit a 16v head? Any help will be v much apriciated!!!

16vT would be the best upgrade, I don't think its simply a case of swapping the head though, I think you'd need to look into the head + block, ie a whole new engine. The manifolds might be a sticky issue, not sure if you'd have to fabricate your own or whether you can obtain them from USA (if so, its a good time to - exchange rates etc)

20V head is apparently less efficient (in terms of gas flow) than the 16V head, hence the above suggestion.

should be able to get WAY more power than that! common turbo'd G60 lump people go for an IHI turbo. not sure if it'll fit between the engine and Mk1 bulkhead though and would require a different exhaust etc.., as some of the corrado pep's have done this and get around 270bhp+

what managemant/ecu/injectors has it got?

a T4 would be the easier upgrade as it's got the same flanges

not sure about the 16v head to be honest, don't know for sure if all the water/oil ways are in the same place (think they are) etc..

personally, go for a T4, possibly some bigger injectors and then a remap on the ecu

hope that's of some help

Oh… and get some pics up please   would love to see that engine bay

Thanks guys for your fast responces!

I know, that 200bhp was running an aftermarket chip…. and was not remapped- so i think my next route is to go for a mappble ecu to fine tune it all.
A t4 sounds interesting- what car are they from?  The injectors are green top i think, i have just had them serviced by a bosch centre, when it was rolling roaded it was fueling well, but as it was not mapped i think the chip was limmiting it.

The reason i said about the 16v head was its seems crazy running all this power through the bad design of the 8v! I dont think i have seen a g60 turbo on a 16v head…..
Ill get some pics up when its stopped raining! :-)

sorry to put a linkl to another site the corrado forum type it on google and it will give u the link, there is loads of people running the g60 setup with 16v head turbod on there, a lad on there is sellng the full g60 16v turbo set up engine, rebuilt forged bottom end with arp bolts 16v head etc all for 600quid, you just need turbo loom etc,

i always have the last laugh ;)

not wishing to put a dampener on things………but……… going for mega power in a mk1 is all well and good, but can you get it onto the tarmac? will the shell take it? gearbox? etc….
a g60 turbo'd with a flowed head and t3 should be able to pump 250bhp. that is assuming it's all running efficiently. pipework and intercooler are worth looking at for more power (sprinter coolers are not the most efficient) and there is the option of a cam. don't go too wild though. i'd keep it under 270 deg myself. aquamist is another option to look into.

thats why higher powered engines are best put in cabbys.

rebuild in progress....

Quite, why the need for more power? 200bhp is plenty for a fwd hatch weighing under 800kg
