Mk1 Golf Engine Choice
Right,
We are currently restoring 2 Mk1 Golf GTi's, one back to standard original, the other is to be a project car which will be road race spec.
Not sure on which way to go with the modded car with regards to the engine. Read several articles about which is the best way to go but thought I would come on here and ask the experts.
So, if you could suggest an engine swap (or mods to the original), which will give relatively good power to weight, reliability (not worried about economical), with pro's and cons please, would be most appreciated.
Originally I was thinking of a G60 unit, simply because I loved the noise my mates old Corrado used to make!
Thanks
Andy

Quickest easiest would be 1.8 16v or 2.0 16v 9a or abf also 2ltr 8v all these engines are prob the cheapest to buy and are all time proven. Loads of info on here about these options a long with 20vt engine conversion which is gettin quite done a lot but a lot more messing than doin a abf swap that's good for 150bhp to 160bhp with no mods as such other than the simple ones to fit it in mk1 The abf lump can be turboed too.
It dunt fit

Best take a look here mate: The Mk1 Golf Owners Club
Depends if you want a tuneable 20v turbo engine such as this: - YouTube
A snorting 16v on bike carbs like this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aIxwa0bJa8w
Or something a little more mental like this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3Xdks-j3yt0
