Theres lots of different engines u can put into ur Golf C as i've found out when i asked the same question pretty much on here a couple of months back.

What kinda engine u gonna be looking it? What kind of budget u working with? Whats the reason ur changing it? Wanting more performance? More reliability? Etc???

I could list loads of common ones like going to the GTi engines or 1.8T but it depends if thats what ur gonna be looking at. Some of the other guys on here will be able to give u rough prices for fitting certain engines and tell u whats involved.

want fast and semi reliable. i dont wana spend more that 5k, originally wanted 1.8t but storm developments wanted 7 plus and sounded really disinterested on the phone which surpriced me but their loss anyways, jbs up chesterfield wanted 7 + vat but were really helpfull.
mvdevelopments i emailed about a g60 but im yet to call.
Again they were helpfull too.

If anyone knows other companies i can talk to pls leave there name or website. WITH THE MONEY IVE GOT SURELY THIS LITTLE CLASSICS GONNA FLY?????? (IM DETERMINED TO MAKE IT)

Well i heard someone on here the other day mention a 1.8T costing around ?4,500 but i'll have see if i can find it again lol

I was looking at maybe going into the G60 with MVDevelopments and then he also had a Stage 2 Turbo conversion for it too if i remember rightly, was only a quick glance though so maybe mistaken. So if it was the G60 (?2,500 i think) and then the Turbo conv. (?2,200 i think) sounds like a pretty nippy twin charged engine to me and under ?5k lol

Sorry to put a damper on things dude - OK doing the engine but what about the suspension, wheel/tyre combination and especially the brakes… get these sorted then see how much you've left before deciding on the engine conversion

Thats a very good point although alot of the places in have spoken to about engine conversions usually include these things, all the way down to the tanks etc aswell there is ALOT of things needed so make sure the garage doesn't have any way of adding more and more on top at the end for bits they didn't account for at the beginning

if its carbed, probably the cheapest and easiest route would be a 1.8 16v on carbs, like dellortos or webber 40/45's it wudnt b that economical however, as that it the nature or a carburettor in comparison to injection, injection is a rather big change with all the tank, pipes, wiring in etc from scratch,

a 1.8 16v is one of the few engines ready to run on carbs that has the inlet facing the front of the car, away from the exhaust, therefore getting lots of cold fresh air, whereas if u want to run carbs, on alot of other engines, it will be above exhaust, near bulkhead, getting little air which will be hotter.

If u want injection, then probably economy wise it wud b g60, vr6 then 1.8t, i may be wrong, possibly the vr6 being more expensive,
but the 1.8t is meant to be one of the best suited engines in a mk1 as its still light, and fairly reliable in comparsion to the temperate nature of a g60, albeit a damn fast engine.

1.8 16v on injection will be cheap, very easy to get parts for to modify, wud require only 1 engine mount change (u will need this for any bigger engine change) and whoever does it, will be the cheapest to install

u cud go for a standard gti engine from a mk1, wud b even easier and cheaper than a 16v, but 16v engines with ancillaries r going for abotu 100 now, so not much in it really, u cud buy one and recondition it….

swings and roundabouts, horses for courses, etc etc

16v

my mate a has a 16v kr 1.8 engine in a mk1 cab the car is scrap but he wants to sell it as a whole thing ?300 the only downfall is that the car was badly painted and theres overspray all ove the engine

but it runs and its in a mk1 so you have everything you need including a downpipe which i think is a scirroco manifold and downpipe

if your interested let me know   8)  8)
