mk1 golf brakes

just in the middle of converting my friends mk1 to a 16v.the car itself was a 1.3 originally what id like to know is can i just run a 16v m/c and servo?is there anything i need to do this or run this set up?i know the rear beam doesnt have a compensator but someone has previously converted it to have rear disc/caliper set up.would this cause any issues?any help appreciated

I'd be very concerned with that setup:

1.3 front brakes if still original - non vented diskand probably not up to the job of a 16v.

Disk brakes on the back with no balance or compensator is a real lock up and skid risk!!!

In a nutshell - weak brakes at the front and overly strong brakes at the back

I have the Scirocco limiting valves at the M/C. Mine is very light at the back and I have no issues with it locking up.

I wouldn't even bother with rear limiting valves, I don't think they'll do enough to bring the brake balance to where it should be. My advice? Look at fitting a rear compensator and adjusting it properly, and also convert back to drums at the rear.

Not really, you can bolt on the little bracket to the end of the beam.

ive got polo gti rear discs on mine with a pedal box and adjustable brake bias - as soon as you adjust the brake bias towards the rear it starts locking up the rears i would say discs on the back of a mk1 are overkill
