mk1 abf conversion

right i have a 1.1 on a weber carb and i really like the idea of an abf lump, is there some sort of guide where i can get a list of everything im going to need so i can see how much it is going to cost me and so i can see how hard it will be?

if i used bike carbs could i keep my existing loom?

any help is great, thanks all!

If yours is small block you'll have to move your engine mount mind you.

Nearly finished my abf conversion into my 1.6 so I can give you heads up on a few things that I know
I admit I'm not an expert but just simply passing on knowledge taught to me by others

Best thing is to buy a whole donor car. I got a mk3 golf gti 2l 16v
Then you have so many parts to begin with.

GEARBOX
I don't believe you can use your gearbox as its small block box. So use an 020box from any mk1 1.6 or 1.8
These will holy straight onto the abf lump. You will however need a mk2 golf 16v clutch and flywheel to transfer the increased power.

Or

You can use the 02a box that comes with the abf lump but this requires a different gearbox mount and possibly the clutch cable and linkage may need changing.

MOUNTS
The mount on the drivers side will need to be cut off and welded back on upside down
I think the rear mount is the same. You'll need to remove the mounts off the mk1 engine and bolt them to the abf.

BRAKES
I don't think your car has a servo. I would say you need to upgrade without a doubt.
Fit a servo if yours Dosnt have one. Get a 9inch servo from a mk2 golf and a 22mm master cylinder as well.

In my opinion. Unless you have some sentimental attachment to you car it would be much easier to start with a big block injection.

Have a look on the build threads to get an idea. The more you look the more you'll learn.
