mk1 16v starting problem

hello folks.. not sure im posting in the right place,but here goes.. i have a 83 mk1 cabbie with 16v kr swap,the car runs and drives fine but will not start on the key, you have to turn the key back half a turn to catch it just right then she starts any ideas? .... iit has done this from the time i put it in .

This is a technical problem so it needs to be in the tech section… it is a modified engine so therefore needs to be in the sub forum of Modifications and conversions  :wink: .  Linked it for you mate  :wink:

What does it actually do when you turn the key normally?  Does it turn over?

If it's not turning over then it sounds more like a dodgy ignition switch (or connection)

Sounds like a faulty ignition switch - they are prone to this at old age.

agreed, quick n dirty way to test for this is run a live wire from the battery to the coil +Ve side (where the black wires are) and try again. obv be careful when draping live wires all over your engine bay

hello folk thanks for the reply .....The car will start on a bump ,,, and it turns over fine on the key but only fires as you release the key....... it never fires up when you keep the key fully turned

i have a similar problem with mine but i think its the fuel pump relay does yours prime for a couple of seconds when you turn to ignition on
