Mk1 1.8 8v GTI engine to replace a 1.8 carb. 1990 Clipper!

How do all,

I'm having loads of running issues with my 1.8 carbed Clipper so instead of spending ages trying to replace £5 parts I'm doing this swap instead.

I'm planning on doing the swap within the next fortnight so it's best if I could ask a few questions before I tackle it.

I have a whole GTI that I can pilfer more or less whatever part I need (said GTI is having AGU swap, so a lot of the parts will be redundant)

What parts off the GTI would I need to do the swap? Stuff like the gearbox and rad is obvious but the wiring loom? Fuel pump? fuel pipes?

Thanks in advance for any answers, I like to make sure I know what I need to before I tackle something like this.

Sel.

In tank lift pump, fuel pump/ accumulator.
Engine, all ancillaries
Gearbox will be same if its a late clipper you have, if not use the Gti one, hubs and shafts (hell be going 100mm anyway)
Wiring loom, fuel pump wiring loom/relay.
A away to mount the metering head in the bay (cut his and steal that?)

Few to start with.

Cheers mate,

As for the metering head, I take it that there won't be any mounts on my car?

The haynes Mk1 golf restoration manual has this very conversion in it. If I get 5 mins I'll scan the pages in for you.

you will need all associated engien gubbins, basically strip the bay clean. engine loom too, not the lighting loom unless you want the mfa to work. main thing is what fusebox does his mk1 have, later blade like yours or early ceramic? you need to run a wire for your fuel pump(s), or change entire rear wirign loom for a cabby gti. the mk1 loom will be a bit different, and also he is going to need it anyway! take the fuel pump relay too, he will be using a different one for the 20v swap.

you need to replace all of your fuel lines, plus either fit a tintop gti fuel tank or get a post-84 cab/rocco or g40 shape polo lifter pump and under car fuel reservoir. you'll need a post-84accumulator and fuel lines too as its smaller to make room for the reservoir. you'll need a k-jet fuel pump, your mate will want to keep his

edit: oh and keep your old engine wiring loom for your mate, it'll actually make his life a bit easier as it has a wire in d/13 which he needs for his ecu fuel pump trigger wire!
