MK 3 2 LITRE 8 V INTO A MK1, ENGINE AND LOOM....EASY?

engine is bolt in fitment, wiring for engine and dash require splicing.  you could fit the entire car loom plus fusebox if you wanted, then it would just be a little bit of splicing for the lights and other few bits that you need to keep from the mk1

yep johnny's spot on i've got a mk3 8v with full loom which isn't too difficult (can help with diagnosing problems further down the line) isn't the mk3 golf dash a bit big for the mk1? I opted for mk4 polo dash which works pretty well you aren't talking big power gains but very driveable, if it's a small engined mk1 you'll need to move the cam belt mount to the gti positioning

if it\'s got tits or tyres it\'s gonna be trouble

well, i didnt realise how much you needed to change on a mk 1 to get a mk 3 engine in! polo dashes dont fit, had to cut 2 inch off the back just to get it in so it didnt hit on the column stalks, then chop away loads behind to get it fitting right!, fuse box doesnt fit right, full throttle pedal assem has to be changed and welded in as the mk 3 has a shorter accelerator cable and is totally different, you dont need to cut the chassis leg either to get the alternator in. What a job!

you know you can use a mk2 gti throttle cable, that would fit both mk1 pedal box and mk3 engine. and with alternator, simply swasp it for the earlier type with the big spring underneath. the later setup with seperate tensioner wheel has no clearance to chassis leg, spring one has loads of room.

but oh well, too late now lol

is there any issues with the block height in a mk1?

also could k-jet be used on a mk3 engine?

Post

block height is an issue for some aftermarket 4 branch manifolds, but oem setup should work ok
