Mk 1 Golf 'e'

Hi, im new here so sorry if this is the wrong section.

I have just go my first car, a 1978 MK1 golf E, could somebody please tell me what the "e" means. I know that it is not as good as the Gti but how does it size up to it.
It also has a INJECTED badge on it, im assuming that it is not stock and that it has an aftermarket engine in it.

Thanks alot
Stefan :D

Going to need some more details mate!

An 'E' would have been a 1.1 and would not have been fuel injected. Also, it will be obvious if it has had a Gti transplant to warrant the "Injected" badge!

E was for economy. The Formel E had the same power as a 1300, but had an economy display, or consumption indicator, and switches on the gearbox to tell you when to put it in top gear.

The "E" model was the same as our "L" but for the Asia-Pacific market and with a different emissions engine (the 1.5 engines were fuel injected too, later 1.6 were carb).

Not to be confused with the "C Formel E" which was a different model and not available until 1982 I think.

Sounds like you have a personal import to me. Or someone has changed the badges as you say. Best to check the VIN and engine codes.

Thanks,

Im from New Zealand, Thaat is why it is possibly badged 'E' not 'L'.

The engine does have the audi/vw badge on it, so there must have been an engine implant at some point in time to the GTi engine as you mentioned. Or some could have slapped on the badge for the hell of it.

When it comes back from the pannel beaters ill take a squiz at the engine again and give some more details.

Thanks for the help,

Stefan
