Lowering springs or coilovers? In any case, the existing suspension is removed in the same way. Unless you're experienced and have done it lots of times before, you're best off referring to the Haynes manual. I'd not like to give a 'how-to', only for you to post a week later saying the coil spring sprung off in a funny way and you've been down the casualty department!

PS Don't forget there's more to lowering than simply replacing and refitting the suspension. You need to reset camber and tracking and adjust rear brake bias.

Ideally, you'd relieve the tension using spring compressors, then undo the bolt by using a special or adapted tool to undo it, while holding the shock using an allen key or head head tool. I made my own tool, from a 22mm socket, by grinding 2 flats into the top of it so I could hold/turn it with a spanner.

If you've got access to an air gun (like in a garage) you can buzz the nut off fairly easily with that, holding the shaft of the damper still with a sturdy pair of mole grips. It's not ideal, but it does work.

Whatever you do, make absolutely sure you use spring compressors to compress the springs adequately before you remove the nut on the fronts. You can get away without doing it on the rears.
