lowering 80mm on 13s

hi guys just ordered myself some 80mm lowering jamex springs from gsf…has anyone had any experience of lowering a car that much and what profile tyres would i need on 13s?

i also want some spacers but am unsure if 80mm is going to be too low too push the wheels out the arches with spacers (20mm spacers)

any help would be appreciated

Hi  Mitch,

The standar rided high on your car is 360mm from arch to wheel centre. your current type wall is 70 series (70mm).

Working on you have 13x70x13 tyres at the mo (might be wrong, a guess) you have 30mm of free space. if you drop 80mm you have 20mm to find plus some free sace say 5mm(you will need less space as the car will be stiffer)

therefore i would say you need 70-25 = 50-55 series.

You may only be able to get 60 series and higher in 13inch tyres :dontknow:

I used this to work it out http://www.rochfordtyres.co.uk/TyreCalc.asp

Be carefull though 80mm on a road car will be very HARD ride for a daily driver

The 50 series doesn't refer to mm, its the %of the width so we are tought at college!!? 190\50\15 is 50% of 190mm..

dick morris-got it wrong…renn sport, they do 40mm and 60mm drops but i thought id go all out and opt for the 80mm, dont mind how hard the ride is…im 17 lol so no need for comfort really but i will more than likely need to replace the dampers with uprated ones sooner or later!

so what your saying is i need 50 profile tyres or less?

ill post a pic when theyre fitted..took a ruler round the car today and 8cm drop is ALOT…

thanks guys
Mitch

just to add aswell..they do 45-50 and 55 profiles in 13 inch tyres...anyone had an experience of stretching tyres, i think it looks real cool!

You WILL need short stroke dampers with 80mm, Standard ones may bottom out and handling will be dangerous, don't want you ending up in a ditch :(

as rob says above, i would deffinatly reccomend shorter dampers with any drop over 40mm.
