LHD CONVERSION FROM RHD, HOW TO???

I have a 1981, 1.1 Golf.
I want to do a LHD conversion, firstly what machine work is required?
What parts are required, if anyone has a parts list of what is required that would be greatfully recieved.

Nice one.

HAVE VW ETKA 7.0 SO CAN HELP IF YOU NEED A PART NUMBER FINDING. PM ME.

as far as i can see really, the moulding at the opposite side dor the steering column would need cutting, the old one welding up, new dash., new rack, maybe new pedal box? original rhd might be okay because they are still in the same order. you would need to remove all the brake linkages, as the servo and m/c would be at the correct side, holes welding up where the clutch and throttle cables came through and new ones cutting at the new side, shorter clutch cable? and your insurance would go up

i would love a lhd mk1 for the extra originality but practicality/drivability becomes an issue, don't think the whole idea is really worth it for a few scene points

Its only worth doing if your exporting it and cant bare to part with it, you would need a hell of a lot of parts, that are hard to find RHD let alone a left hooker, idealy you need a french or german doner car, have them sat beside each other, it makes it easier and theres always little bits you need, and you can see exactly where it all goes properly

as for insurance   It never cost me any more to insure my LHD G60 Rallye over here   thats a bit of an old wives tale im afraid, so is black cars costing more etc etc

but converting a RHD ot LHD would be seen as a heavy modification therefore the insurance company would kill you! why not sell yours and use the money you get (plus what you would spent doing the work) to buy a german or french mk1?!
