just bought these girling 54 calipers:):):):):)

i bought these girling 54 calipers with carriers off ebay slightly blind as to be honest i got them for a steal :D

i wasn't sure if they would fit as they came off a audi 1984 UR QUATTRO

the auction only had 10 mins left so i just bid for them and got them both inc 15 quid delivery for 37.89.

anyway will they fit?? i have them with me now, is there an easy check i can do on the carriers other than taking my wheels off

pic of them here, hopefully i got lucky

cheers

TG :)

thats a pity. :(

will check the receipt - over a hundred for the pair.. iirc

but i was looking a good new set up as i need to be able to stop confidently

wilwoods were an option but they needed spacers etc which bump the price up and they only work with wilwood pads which knocks the price up - same with hispec etc

so i figured a good genuine new mk2 16v set up would be the best bet with decent disks and pads and it was cheaper by far than the aftermarket alternatives.

I know folk cringe at the calliper carrier price new…but Remember… its money well spent as they stop you! 8O

so it was over 100 just for the carriers right?? even if i pay that i've only spent 39 quid on the calipers so its not too bad, gutted though i thought i'd got a bargain there :?

have you got a part number on them as it'll save me explaining to the dude at vw

i suppose thats my only option now then is to buy the carriers new??

cheers for the replies guys

Part Numbers:-
Caliper carriers - 853 615 125 (x2)
Carrier bolts - N900 689 02 (x4)
Sliding pin bolts - 321 615 141 (x4)

shamelessly nicked from clubgti forum…

Last time I got quoted, 111.49 each  8O

But it is money well spent…

I'd checked the calipers too, I compared the old audi ones I had to the scirocco ones I have now… and they are slightly different! not to sure how much it would affect them but my audi ones are wider!?

8O 111 each 8O  now thats alot after i've bought a new master cylinder, new discs etc and had to mess around with the rear brake lock up valves as its post mk1 tin top variety (90) its strting to get a bit expensive here :?

looking like i could be putting these back on fleabay at this rate

cheers for the replies guys

cheer dude, they both state they will only send to germany though.

i actually mailed the bloke in the first link asking if he spoke english last week, he replied one word "yes" so i mailed him again saying i would pay any extras required etc and even pay his paypal fees etc but he just ignored me after that.

also neither of them appears to take paypal so would avoid a bank transfer to someone in a different country :?

cheers for the help m8

Don't know if this will help you but some astra gte carriers and calipers fit. Direct replacement. Some weer fitted on an old gti I bought. Think they were fitted to calibras too. Will be a damn site cheaper than brand new vw parts! HTH.

woza, this came on CGTI recently as well, were they modified at all? ive heard that the bolts are different size?

I take it it needs the whole caliper and carrier, does this serious bolt straight on?  with mk2 golf 256x20mm discs, or vaux 256x24mm discs?

i'm willing to try this, I used to have the vaux 16v 256mm calipers on my Nova, they were brilliant  :y:

Yes caliper & carrier. The ones I had bolted straight on with 16v discs - no mods that I was aware of. HTH.

Cheers Woza,

Hopefully picking some Vauxhall 16V brakes up tomorrow now, ?40 for the calipers, carriers and pads, worth a poke certainly as should be able to sell them for that if they dont fit.

Are you sure no mods?

This post on CGTI suggests the bolt size is different?

16V VW or 16V Vauxhall discs?

the VW ones are 20mm thick, Vaux 24mm from memory

Sorry. VW 16v discs - I guess the stud pattern for the vauxhall ones is different. :dontknow: If not then either should work ok I suppose. As for the bolt I really can't remember. Mod was done to car before I bought it but I'm sure there was no spacer or such in there. Should be pretty easy to fit a sleeve in if the hole is too big on the carriers. Hope they work out for you!
