Induction Air Filter - Which is the best?

Hi

I have a MK1 Golf GTI Cabriolet with a DX engine.

Which Induction Air Filter kit is the best option, Pipercross or K&N? Do they do one for this engine?

Do they work or make any difference. Does the engine need to be retuned?

My standard air filter needs to be changed so i thought might as well upgrade.

Many thanks

Just get a K&N panel filter. Don't bother messing with an induction kit for the mk1. Won't need a re-tune unless you do other mods too.

cheers for the advice

Bit of a vain question this but do you still get the induction noise with the panel filter?

Also the pipe from the air box to the front of the engine bay has a split in it which obviousley needs to be fixed are these easily found?

No induction noise with a panel filter. Will sound the same as a standard filter. If you really want some induction noise then drill some holes in the bottom half of the air box on the side AWAY from the engiine (don't want it drawing in hot air). I wouldn't bother though.

When i had my DX i had a panel filter (pipercross) and drilled the lower half of the airbox with a holes saw.

Made a massive difference to the noise, no noticeable increase in power or anything along those lines.

I've got the panel filter and a perfect lower airbox (ready for drilling) in the for sale section if you fancy spending a lot less than ?35 on a new filter ;)
