How can you say the only welding is as per factory?

You have obviuosly had to re-weld the centres in the wrong way round. How did you get them centralised?
Have you fitted them to a car yet?

I noticed that but didn't want to say, lol.

Easy enough to take em to a wheel place to have a quick look see on the balancer to get an indication of if they can be balanced up.

I wouldnt mind "banding" and deep dishing a set of 14" steelies to make `em 8inches wide.

 BUT

Ive heard its impossible to get tyres put on them. As any tyre fitter wont touch them as soon as they see they are crop-and-chop technology! As its AGAINST THE LAW!!!

.. is there any truth in this?? Or is it an urban myth???

 (nice wheels by the way)

Stay out of the black…
 And into the red….
You get nothing in this game for 2 in a bed!

It isnt impossible to put tyres on widened steels.

We band steel wheels, they are banded by someone who has a license to build wheels. He builds HGV wheels, agricultural wheels, custom car wheels etc . . and has doen for quite some time.

How can you say the weld is unpredictable? have you tried to break  a machine weld?

the dangers of welding a steel wheel is always there no matter how you do them. The welds have to penetrate both parts of the steel you are welding.

Taking the centre out of the wheel could be really dangerous as well though if you think about it?
How do you know it is straight?
Only firing the questions because we have been down this route.

Are you hand welding the 2 wheels together? not doubting the wheels at all fella sure you have been down the same road we have been down while we have been doing wide steels.

are the welds continuous welds round the wheel?

here is a pic of my wide steels on my mk1.  not let me down now  for almost 7000 miles this year and balance up spot on.
No air leakage and they ride really well.

Its an urban myth fella, been to a few MOT stations and they were fine with them.  been to a few tyre fitters are they even complimented how good the wheel actually was.

Not sure what colour to do them - going on a white car with black trim.

Any suggestions on tyre sizes for a slight stretch, they are 14" x 7.5" and 8.5"

ET8 rear, ET20 front

every bus(passenger transport)in the country has banded steels on

they got a bad rep down to people using banger racing cheap wide wheels on the public road and got themselves outlawed but to say any type of banding is illegal is a myth

195/45/14 should get a good bit of stretch and still cover the 8.5" wheel, just…

I have just bought some wide steels, only 7" all round though, and these are made in the factory.

They are mattigs and look quite good, just need to lower the car now and change the tyres to maybe 45`s instead of 50`s

Them other steels look quite good, do you not have to be an approved wheel maker to actually make them though  :dontknow:
