How would I go about converting from brake drums to discs

My Golf is in need of the brakes replacing, and I want to go for disc brakes front and back, opposed to just on the front, how would I go about converting from drums to discs and what would I need?

Also, is it possible to paint the callipers? Thanks :)

or you can go with mk2 carriers and either mk2, mk3, or mk4 golf calipers
 i would go for mk4

it is also neccesary to get some sort of brake compensator valve or the back wheels will just lock up

Yes you can paint the calipers, I used black hamarite on mine as I didn't want anything too flashy.

Theres numerous guides on here about changing to rear discs, cant remember which mk of golf hubs you need to use. Just do a search on here.

Are you upgrading engine performance? As the rear breaks on a golf do very little anyway, as its such a light car, I've heard problems where people have had a lot of rear lock ups after carrying out the conversion.  As long as the rear drums are in good order and the hand brake is adjusted up they will be more than adaquate for your needs I would suspect.

The money you spend on a rear disc conversion would be better spent on a bigger disc conversion on the front and the larger master cylinder mod in my opinion.
