HOW TO ! Get rid of that 80's SUNROOF PART TWO.....

Having just painted my 1983 Gti i was going to put back that horrible 80's sunroof that so many cars were fitted with BUT …Decided to do this

First rip out and throw away the old Piranna roof [if any one needs it or bits from it drop me a PM]

Find a suitable donor car who will supply you with a roof you rearly want

Then buy it  complete for ?50.00

Inspect the old hole and take the plunge to chop out more metal

Take some very carefull measurements , check about 3 times and chop away

To be continued …………..

You're a brave man! Especially after just having it repainted…

Should look cool though - best of luck with it :y:

 Again i think you're a brave man but good on you for trying something different and i think these roofs are much better than the poor ventilation provided by the glass type. Also they are more common abroad so tells you they must be better in the hotter weather 8)

nice work Chudd! I had a Mini British Open Classic with full webasto roof. Such a cracking thing to have and it never leaked!!

Tip for keeping it black, forget the bespoke 'back to black' things as these always were patchy on mine. I used black liquid shoe polish and this was spot on. Only down side was small specs of the sponge applicator sometimes came off but blew off once dry anyway!

Nice one Chudd, what did you find the best tool for cutting out the area? Friend of mine had a mk1 with a webasto until recently. No obvious signs of any additional bracing, although he did say car didn't feel quite as tight as his factory fitted sunroof model (although only when driving hard  ) very effective in the summer though.
