how low is my car sitting on coilovers? and coilover advice

need some advice, my front coilovers have failed MOT due to corrosion and dumper leak, i need to replace only the fronts but i want to match the rears or maybe go alittle lower.  Can some please see pics below and take a guess to how many mm my car is currently lowered by.

Iv looked at hottuning as they do a 120mm drop but not sure as they are too budget i perfre the ones below and iv read better reviews but they only lower front by 100mm, will that be enough to cover the same as my current drop.  The car is on 14inch wheels

I'm running hot tuning coils on my cabby, I think they are fine for the money.

Projekt Frustration :

White 1991 Clipper. Lowered over polished zender rims, Single 40 dellorto on lynx manifold, kent cam, full stainless 'zorst / manifold, powerflex bushed and braced. Not the fastest car, but sounds super nice!

Still going after 12 years… never said it was a quick fix! Time is not my friend.

hi mate if your thinking if getting the JOM set then try a company called DPM i found them on the editon 38 website in the edition 38 traders section they quoted me 180 pounds inc vat delivered so you could save yourself a few bob there. was thinking about getting a set but unsure of the ride qulity ie how harsh, its so hard to get any reveiws as one person says there fine then the next says there hard as hell anyway good luck mate

I've seen the ride debate happen a fair few times on here… I think its personal perception of ride quality.

Also the ride height of the car will effect the ride quality, if you wind coils right down they will become harsh.

As for drop. I just set mine to a the height I liked and leveled the car up around that. I know I have a good 40 - 50 mm left on the threads. That's the beauty of coilies, you can set a stance you want.

As for how far the car's dropped, for me it's like BHP, meaning less figure to brag about in the boozer!

Not low enough if it is still wearing that big front spoiler!

Mine has 14" wheels with 50 profile rubber - yours look about 50 profile too?
The gap between tyre and arch on yours looks like it could be less, meaning you could go a lot lower!

I think mine is around 90 - 100mm - not sure as I never measured it. Like chris-h said, just a pointless figure to talk about in the pub.
I'd guess yours is around 70 to 80mm as it is.

lol, too true.  If you still have a GTI splitter, you can go lower.  I doubt your current coilovers are at the bottom of their adjustment?

Mine have already started self notching the chassis though….any lower and practically you'll want to start notching etc.  If you want to drive it hard anyway.

jom coilovers are pretty much the same as hottuning. the only difference is in the quality of the threading, and if you grease hottunings properly on fitting they are just as good.

mate of mine bought some and side by side with my hottunings they were identical.

I believe they use ta-teknics dampers as do hottuning.

thanks guy for all the help -
I ended up getting FK silverline with koni dumpers as i didnt want to take the change of a harsh ride.
since then Iv removed the front spoiler and gone abit lower.
the handling and ride quality is awesome.

only problem now is the drive shift is alittle too close to the body, anyone know away around this, there must be  a way and Iv seen MK1 alot lower than mine.

Yes, all envolve hacking and welding.

Notch the chassis…Chop then weld a segment out of the chassis to give you clearance.

or go old-skool and wait for the chassis and shaft to notch themselves…

:P

From experience if you go so low the shaft hits, (which i did,) then you've ruined all the suspension angles and they tend to bumpsteer violently!!!  If you're this low you really do need to regularly underseal the car to lube the pan a bit, as this helps to stop it seriously grinding the rails down!!  I would advise getting the bottom arms stitch welded to as they can twist something chronic once you get out on our horrific roads lol

Also, make sure all the exhaust clamps point to the side or up. nothing worse than being under the car in a supermarket car park in the snow putting the ruddy exhaust back on…

And without the front splitter mine is rather unstable in a straight line passed about 65mph lol

lol, I literally agree with that word for word Jon.

I've destroyed so many sumps and U clamps now, I eventually moved over to proper Mikalor clamps at RubJohnny suggestion after my exhaust fell off (again) driving up to his garage to pick some parts up.
