Help

The crank bolt on a 16v engine at the belt end. Does it have a left or right handed thread? I'm struggling to get the bleeding thing undone! :banghead:

Should be "Normal"!

I struggled with one of these recently. A GOOD quality socket and a very large hammer helps. The noise the hammer makes when contacting the socket changes pitch slightly when you hit it and it "Free's up". Would normally need an air gun too I would have thought…

The bolts are normally locktighted on, and then done up damn damn tight. Be hard pushed to get one off without an air gun. Other option would be to put some form of extension on the wrench your using. A hollow bar normally works a treat and needs to be a few feet long. This will give lots of leverage.

Cheers Guys. Think I'll give it a blast with the old blowtorch as well!
Then apply some gentle persuasion with a big tapometer!

Does the crank pulley not have a rubber part fro balancing?  DX engines do.

Oh - Dunno. Didn't know the DX's did either! Sure mine hasn't got one. What's it look like?

I've already removed the pulley so if there is a rubber part I've probably removed it.

I think the cambelt drive cog is connected to the pulley using a bonded rubber flange.

Munkey well done with the crank bolt. Another way to tackle stuff like this is plusgas and an impact driver. :D

I used to own a mk1 - well I've had 2 actually - YDU 720X & SMU 420Y. Currently I drive an 98 Scotia White Mitsubishi Evolution V RS…. fancy getting another mk1 someday :D
