help needed to fit gti

hi all i recently bought my first mk1, its a karmann clipper cab but the thing is i went from a mk4 1.8 20vt 200bhp to my 1.8 8v so i need more power lol so i bought a gti head and cam from the vw festival but it looks the same are there any tell tail signs, and can anyone help fit tomz after 5.30 as i would really like to take it to unphased in bolton on thursday thanks very much Bayley

hi, i'm not 100% about if the heads are the same, or how much difference a  standard gti head would make but if your car is running it might be worth hanging on and getting the head ported and polished and up grade the cam. where are you based, might be somebody close by can help, good luck…..

am based in rochdale the car has had a full engine rebuild about 10k ago so yeah it might be worth getting it polished and ported but ma cars is already in bits lol but i have a new cam belt and gasket kit so i could always put it back together for now, whats the best engine to put in if i fancied a transplant (cheapest with the most gains lol) TA   Bayley

mmnn can of worms with conversion, have a look in the technical section , there is a piece about engine  conversions. i guess it depends on what you can do yourself and what parts you can get hold of, i'd guess a 16v conversion would be an option if you are on a tight budget, if funds not a problem then i'd be tempted with a 20vt ……
