HAS ANYONE FITTED A 6 SPEED BOX INTO THERE MK1 YET???

Hi

I am thinking of fitting a mk2 golf 16v engine with a mk5 6 speed box connected to it.  Has anyone fitted a six speed box into there MK1 yet and if so how hard was it?

Ie was there any special CV joints needed, hubs needed etc.

Any info or links to other info would be great thanks.

Andrew

The 02S is easy peasy to fit.. I run a Eurospec 6 speed 02J which is the same..

The 02M is a tad harder as there are no off the shelf mounts and the thing is sooooooooooo heavy I wouldn't want to burden my mk1 with one..

what are the 02S and 02J off? whats needed for the conversion - gear linkage and matching clutch plate? or one of those hydro clutch jobbies?

The 02A, 02J and 02S gearbox are all the modern fangled cable change gearboxes.. the 02A was the first then followed by the 02J, both are 5 speed. The 02S (and the Eurospec) are 6 speed and achieve the extra gear by literally extending the gearbox and squeezing another gear in there. The 02S is most commonly found in Sharans and the like.

cool! i bet that 6th gear is quite handy. my 16v mk1 hits the redline in 5th without even trying and thats with a mk2 16v box - 140ish mph!

Great

So the 02S is the box to use, do you then have to make drive shafts to suit or can you make the drive shafts out of the MK1 and the 02S shafts.  Also, gearbox mountings?  Are there some off the shelf units i can buy to help fit the box easier.

Thanks

late cabby driveshafts fit straight on as they have the larger inner CV joint.. easy peasy :)

Mounts are available, either cheap adaptor mounts from caddy forum (uses stock bushes) or uprated mounts from G-Werks
