hard top cabriolet

has it ever been done?

I was thinking if there was some way of moving the rear bulk head forward to just behind the front seats, making it a 2-seater, that would leave enough room to build a merc SLK type of roof that folds up into the boot.

who's brave enough to try it?

If anyone thinks they can do it they can use my car as the project. If they bodge it up though they can keep the car & give me 500 sheets!

Hmmm… dry, warm, no rips, no tears, no break-ins, no porous this and broken tension cables that, no water stained interior, better rear vision, longer life (I'd imagine)… anything I've missed?

  Ha! That defeats the whole object! I want a cabriolet for the summer (and fuck a pug 206!). But with british whether it's hit and miss. Might as well move with the times find other options.

I just thought….

…get a tin top, chop the roof off, use it on a cabriolet. Take the tin top roof off when its hot. BMW did that. I'm sure it was on the 3 series. They built a hard top cabriolet where you actually took the whole roof off. It was aimed at rich folks with big garages who had the space to store a whole roof as well as a car.

Ha. I don't work in any of those professions. I prefer the look of the soft top. I'd sooner have a soft top. But considering we get like 3 days a year of instense heat, the kind where old people die and the Irish get sun-burnt, I'd like to be able to drive/park my car and and not worry about the negatives I mentioned before.

How about making a carbonfibre mould of a tin top and adapt for a soft top :D
