Oil pressure, oil temp and volts. Just make sure to get the matching senders, all ok.

Left to right, so I can see most important without looking past my knee, volts, vacuum then oil pressure. I use Autometer gauges.

Just to be different, and coz i've got electric windows & roof buttons in the centre consol, I put 2 VDO gauges where the ash tray goes. I got them off ebay for ?7 and they're out of a Vauxhall Calibra. I already installed a wolfsburg white dial kit so they matched up quite well.

Just a little different idea. The DVD player has since gone, stuck out to far and was crap.

audi ones are the popular VDO gauges.

ah ok, i was thinking old school type round guages that go into holders, same size as the pre cut section in mk1s... or are they the same thing? i dont really know, not seen audi types before

When I bought he Calibra VDO gauges they didn'y come with senders, I nice chap on here pointed me to an American site, Wworked out A LOT cheaper than buying a brand new oil pressure endxer from Audi or VW. Heres the link:

http://www.egauges.com/

Quick delivery too, being as they send it from the gud ol US of A! Genuine VDO aswell.

Try these too.

i have a sender above the oil filter and there are high and low pressure senders on the side of the block i think (i am prob wrong as my knowledge is limited)
these work with the buzzer and light on the dash

I know what your on about, just above the oil filter is where it goes. Unscrew the sensor that is there, then screw in the new sender. When I did this I came across a problem. When I started the car, and revved it over 2000 revs, the oil light buzzer in the dash (in the clocks) started to flash and buzz. So I used the oil pressure feed the VDO gauge as normal and then earthed the other wire. Problem fixed. However, there is a better solution. Use one of the blanking holes next to where the oil pressure sender screws in to put the old oil senser back on and reconnect it. Even better just use one of the spare hole for your VDO oil pressure sender.

There are I'm sure a few different ways you can attach an oil pressure gauge depending on a few different desired effects. Do you want mechanical or electric? Do you want to maintain the factory light and buzzer or do away with it? Do you like having the rather large electric sender hanging onto the engine somewhere?

All the different ways and feelings a side, location should be well though out before doing the work. Attached to the filter bracket will give you oil pump pressure, call it system pressure like in a CIS fuel system if that helps. problem with that is that if the bearings start to wear thin or there is a blockage in the cylinder head starving say the camshaft, you will not know it untill too late. Many people don't care and use that location anyway, but I suggest using the location on the driver's side of the cylinder head. That location is at the end of the oiling system and will show a problem anywhere in the system.

you by law need to keep the dash light for mot
as it comes in the sequence of dash lights that have to come on at ignition

  • thats what my tester told me!!

MOT doesn't matter, I used to be an MOT assistant. There's no check for lights on dash. Only exterior lights, front & rear. You don't even need a working speedo or reverse lights!

but isnt there supposed to be a sequence of lights followed?
like you can't have abs and not have a working abs light?

If the car has ABS, it must be working. Part of this is that the dash light comes on with the ignition, and goes out once the engine is running - as this is a standardised self-check of the ABS system.

You need some dash lights, eg to show indicators work, fog light is on. Possibly main beam is on, too.
