gti cam in 1.8carb engine
hi
would a gti cam fit into a 1.8 carb engine? would this make any difference?
i have a clipper with a weber carb conversion on it, i would like to make more of the standard setup.

It should fit in no problems, a few people recomend this an upgrade, mainly due to cost.
I have no idea what gains this will have over a clipper's cam.
When I had mine in bits I fitted a secondhand KENT CAMS GS2H fast road cam to my clipper. As this is an upgrade for a GTI/any 8v engine I opted for this. Bought secondhand for about £90.
Not had it on the rollers for setting up as yet, but hope to later in the year. I hope to see a respectable increase, especially with the Dellorto carb ann new exhaust.
If you do change the cam, then it's a good time to put in a new set of followers. If you do buy a "hot cam the a vernier pulley will help get the best out of it.

Projekt Frustration :
White 1991 Clipper. Lowered over polished zender rims, Single 40 dellorto on lynx manifold, kent cam, full stainless 'zorst / manifold, powerflex bushed and braced. Not the fastest car, but sounds super nice!
Still going after 12 years… never said it was a quick fix! Time is not my friend.

main thing is to make sure the cam comes from the same type of head as yours, solid lifter cam differs from hydro

Good point John.
That's what the "H" in my cam spec means.

Hi. It will be hydro, solid lifters are found in the early GTi models. Don't know when the change was.
Mine is hydro on a 1991 ( H )

You could just buy a GTI head with the cam already in it. Can pick them up second hand for around forty plus
