Gearbox used in the Berg Cup A1 Rabbits???

I race a SCCA (Sports Car Club of America) H-Production modified Rabbit.  



After viewing videos of the German Berg Cup Rabbits, I am trying to gather any information about the evidently "ultra close-ratio" transmission used in the Berg Cup Rabbits.

Have not found a German website to ask about this, plus I do not speak German.

They probably just used a modified VW box with different ratios to suit the track. Don't think there was anything special about them.

Nearly all of the top runners use sequential gearboxes, I would imagine these are VW Motorsport items, I think it was Gemini that used to make the gearboxes for VWM but I think it is now Ricardo that build the latest type for the Super 1600's (Polo's). This is the same story with the smaller 1300cc groups but of course these use different bell housings and mounts. There are quite a few other companies about that build sequential gearboxes, not just Quaife, Gemini, Ricardo.

www.bildon.com in the US might be able to help you with more information as they stock VWM parts. You would probably be looking at over $10k+ for such a setup.

At the lower end of each Berg Cup class (there are different championships in Europe that will use similar parts/regulations, e.g. Interswiss) they will probably be using an 02A/02J (Mk3/Mk4 Golf/Vento/Bora cable change - much stronger than 020's Mk1/Mk2) with different final drive ratios to shorten all the gears with the addition of a limited slip differential.

I remember reading about a company in the US who used to sell a 6 speed 'add-on' kit for either 020 or 02A style gearboxes but I think this was a few years ago now.

Any more information on the specification of your Mk1 Ryan?
