Gearbox for 9a conversion
I've found a (020) gearbox that I'm interested in for my 9a conversion. Gears 1-4 are the same ratios as box on the MK1 1.6gti, 5th gear is the same ratio as an 8v MK2. It's got an LSD and has done virtually no miles since being rebuilt.
The car is going to be for fast road use, rather than the track. Is this a good box to go with do you think?
Cheers for any advice.
Mat

Never hactually experianced a diff in a valver before…i've heard really good things though, without it does squirm when you nail it at 4Kodd in a low gear
Am not to hot on gearbox ratios…take it that means its similar to my std mk1 1.8GTI box? If its a good price it sounds good to me bearing in mind new difs cost at least ?550-600+fitting… it'll be a right B road monster 8) Mine runs out of gears around 120 indicated (private airstrip…of course), but that doesn't really bother me.
Christ knows how 20vted mk1s cope without a diff…

The guy claims that with the altered 5th gear the box should be good for 140. I think he has a few other trick bits hidden away as well.

have a scount through some of teh stuff on the vortex. General consensus is the cable change, O2A box is stronger.
I'm pretty happy on a std box tbh
