g60 in mk1 cabriolet

I just wrecked my vento (jetta 3). i have a g60 in it and i am looking for cool project. i found a mk1 cabriolet for 2,000 euros. how hard would it be to put the g60 in the mk1. i already have a cable clutch tranny in the vento.

You need to find a custom gearbox mount so you can fit a cable change box, i saw one on e-bay for about 300 pounds sterling (about 450 euros).

Or you just use the mk1 one like we did…

Here in germany where mosh ist stationed with the army you find 020 gearboxes (cable clutch) easy on junkyards…

So dont mess around when it breaks because of torque.

And every 1,8/2,0 gearbox fits on the 1,8/2,0s…. for some years you could even say that every 4 cyl 1,6 up gearbox fits on every 1,6 up.

My drive: Golf 3 GTI 92, changed very much, CarP
I did: Passat 35i 2,0 Edition One 92, Navi plus, 1,8T and ABS/EDS conv, lot of gimmicks
and: Golf 1 conv to G60 Quick and dirty

I'm sticking one in my caddy at the minute. It's a lot easier to put one in a cabby. Engine mounts are the same. Gearbox mounts either fabricate some or buy them. I just got mine off ebay for ?62. Keep with the 02A box, driveshafts slot in.
If you go on ebay. Type in g60 guide. There's a guy that sells them, they're good for a bit of knowledge.

Mk2 VR6, G60 CABBY

ahhh... the car already works with the 020, without problems. And the mountings were all ok from the car, because it was a 1,8 95hp already.

I`ve heard a mk3 diesel box is well suited to a G60 conversion.
Just wondering if you could mate a 6 speeder out of a later golf/audi , for that ultimate bling factor!

Stay out of the black…
 And into the red….
You get nothing in this game for 2 in a bed!

according to the tim styles gti performance manual (or bible as i like to call it) putting a 6 speed box in a mk1 is a bad idea as it is obviously bigger and means sacrificing steering lock and adapting the inner wing…apparently.
Buy the manual if you dont already have it, its amazing. tim made a fortune from people paying him to work on their vw's at tsr (tim styles racing) sold the bussiness and published a book full of his knowledge!!
