fuel tank set up for bike carbs

 does any body have a diagram of a fuel tank set up for bike Carbs.

Basically rebuilding my car and am stuck on all the pipe work . I was under impression that a pipe runs from tank to fuel filter to pump to Carbs , no return line so that can be blocked off , but what about all the breathers and breather valve  also asume there's no need for accumulater? Or is there.

The car was originally 83 1.6 gti

The setup which I ran for over 3 years consisted of a Facet solid state fuel pump (4-6psi, 18gal/h flow), and a filter king pressure regulator. I never had a single issue with over or under pressurising, or leaking carbs, and I ran no return line :)

I'm running r6 fuel pump so no need for regulated but what I'm not sure of is the rest of the piping for the tank do I need breathers or can I block them all off and just have one pipe supplying fuel

Ah I see :)

Carbs can differ on what breathers they have, but generally they can just be blocked off.  They usually have float bowl overflow pipes too, which are the ones to watch out for if using a normal type fuel pump.  On my GSXR carbs I just looped them together to stop them leaking and I never had any issues :)

Considering you're using the bike fuel pump, I would just do the same.

You will need to remove the original fuel pump set up dude. There is far too much pressure in the injection system for carbs. Although saying that I belive you can get step down regulators, but not really sure!

Ideally a solid state pump should be employed as these give roughly the right pressure.

I use a facet posiflow pump, this is mounted on a bracket near the fuel tank (under the car), original fuel line and a sytec pressure regulator just before the carb.

I will prob be changing to a filer king regulator / filter bowl over the winter, to coinside with some reworking of the lines.

I run without a return line as the car never had one connected when bought

 White 1991 Clipper. Lowered over polished zender rims, Single 40 dellorto on lynx manifold, kent cam, full stainless 'zorst / manifold, powerflex bushed and braced. Not the fastest car, but sounds super nice!

Still going after 12 years… never said it was a quick fix! Time is not my friend.

Hiya guys sorry to revive an ancient post but im going to be running bike carbs on my kr conversion and have been told to remove the return line SO i was just wondering if you guys plugged the return line outlet on the tank and if so with what?

I have a short length of pipe bunged up with an M8 bolt and a jubilee clip to block off the tank. Simple and effective!

and dont block the tank breathers! unless you fancy petrol spurting out the filler neck and such ;)

you need tank -> fuel pump -> filter -> carbs

if its a gti tank it has an internal swirl pot so you can just run your new facety or whatever direct from the old outlet on the bottom. if its a carby you can probably use the outlet on the top of the tank as i beleive the facet and such can cope with runnign dry say in long corners.

vw electric pumps will eventually die if this happens so they need an additional lifter pump and swirl pot to ensure this never happens (but no need for you to worry about this)

Hi any chance youve got a diagram of said hose breathers as i get fuel pouring out the top of the filler neck also ive got a leak when i fill it up, i thought i had rigged up the breathers right but obviously not. i dont have access to my manuals at the mo so hoping you can help here.

my breather was blocked solid. Had fuel spurting out of the cap when undoing it……..in fact with someone on the back seat they could actually feel the tank decompress when I took the cap off!!

I simply by passed the breather with a pipe connector. Never had a problem.  As long as it can vent it should be fine.

I Run a facet solid state pump with a filter attached, then another filter in the engine bay and a sytec manual pressure reg. Mine are keihin carbs off a zx9r i think (require about 3.1 psi), no return line. Been right as rain for over a year now. In fact I cant wait to get them on my freshly rebuilt ABF lump :-)

its probably like the gti tank but the simpler setup with just gravity valve and a pipe from neck direct to tank, the picture isnt amazing I'll admit!
