Fuel Lines

I need to make the fuel feed and retuen lines for a 1.8 K-Jet engine - I don't have the originals. Can I use 6mm normal braided fuel hose or do I need the metal braided stuff and can someone explain why the fuel lines have this metal braiding on. Thanks in advance.

i think it is for re-enforcement and for strength (if they arent the same thing)

the idea being that they will not lose pressure with increased flow.

It does provide protection from scraping, friction, that kinda wear.
