From 1.6 to 2.0 8v what I need
Hi everybody,
i have a mk1 cabby 1.6 and I want to put in a 2.0 8v from a mk3. I found the engine (i think is an 2e or a aba, dunno, i see it only in january!) and I need to know WHAT I need to change/buy.
I have the engine and the unit. Nothing else, probably, but I can ask if the guy who seel my the engine can find something else, if I need. If there is already a topic, please say me! I need a list of parts to start, then there are some questions
Thank u very much. :redfaced:

reeto, you can keep your gearbox but buy a 1.8 210mm mk1/2 flywheel and 1.8 8v clutch. you'll need complete engine and all loom plus ecu. airbox is tricky, you may be able to squeeze a mk2 difgifant airbox in (if its a 2e code) if its an aba, agg or ady then a mk2 diesel or spi box might work. mk1 diesel would fit easiest but hard to find
you'll need fuel next, easy option for you is post-84 cab, rocco or g40 shape polo lift pump and under car reservoir as you can keep your fuel tank. then fit a mk1 gti main pump, or polo gt/g40. then its a case of replace the fuel lines for 8mm stuff, weither fuel injection rubber or maybe look at polo/mk2 plastic pipes might fit?
if you get a k-jet mk1 main pump, buy a barbed banjo adaptor for it off ebay m12x1.5 then you can use push fit rubber fuel lines on it. exhaust mk1/cab/rocco gti manifold and downpipe, mk1/cab pre-84 gti exhaust system. make sure the manifold and downpipe is the later gti design with the 6 bolt flange as it flows better than the older toilet bowl design.

you still need to do all of the above, unless its got fuel injection already edit: oh! but you need a post-84 cabrio 1.8 exhaust not a tintop one as it fits differently

you have a late cabrio so you need to make sure you get a post-84 1.8 gti cabrio exhaust, as i say they fit a bit differently to the earlier ones. the manifold and downpipe can be any age mk1/cab/rocco gti, just make sure its the 6 bolt flange type

mmm… ok i try to understand (be so patience with me ahahaha I'm a woman and I need to understand so clear because, I buy and I PAY!! Ahahah!!!)
Manifold and downpipe: mk1/cab/rocco ONLY gti or i can use what i already have?
Exhaust: i need to change with a post84 1.8 gti right? (I need to change in all the time because…well…the man that he had the cab before put an OIL JAR to fit a problem )

you could use your old exhaust complete along with the manifodl and downpipe, but i wouldnt recommend it becasue its smaller bore than the 1.8 system (unless its been upgraded!)
if not, any fuel injected mk1 golf, cabrio or scirocco manifold and downpipe. make sure its later type which has a 6 bolt flange between the manifold and downpipe, like this:
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/VW-Golf-Mk1-GTi-1-6-1-8-Exhaust-Front-Down-Pipes-/271107712820
you could of course go for a 4 branch system if you want, but beware many of these hit the tunnel if you fit a tall block from a mk3. a genuine mk1 system will be fine.
for the exhaust, after 1984 the rear boxes changed due to the fuel tank being larger, so this is why you need a post-1984 1.8 gti cabrio exhaust system
i think the later 1.8 carb cabrio also has the same larger bore system as the gti, but I'm not 100% sure when the change occured

Ok the engine is down and we're waiting for the new one.
I found this:
http://www.ebay.de/itm/VW-Golf-1-Cabrio-Benzinpumpe-Vorforderpumpe-2H-JH-GTI-/121057946549?pt=DE_Autoteile&hash=item1c2f9dabb5#ht_500wt_1288
is it what I need? How can I install this? I find the cap under the seats and I know that it go in the tank, but, for the wiring? Where do I take the cable?
