From 1.1c to 1.6 GTD...
Long story, but basically, i used to own a black caddy for the last 3 years, was a real daily driver, and i took from rags to semi-riches so to speak … basically, it was a N/A 1.6 diesel, and i loved it.
here she is:
Now, ever since i sold it, i want another VW oil burner… thing is, going back to a mk1 golf wasn't easy, as 99% of diesel's were 4dr, which i just don't do … so, i found a beige mk1 1.1c, with a super straight body, and ripe for sticking my GTD engine i collected for the caddy, into. So, here she is:
So, as you can see from the pictures, i've ripped out the old engine… and collecting parts ready to help me with the conversion. Thus far, i have the right engine loom, most of the new engine mounts etc etc, and various other bits n pieces… but, theres one thing i could do with a bit of advice with…
Basically, i'm not to sure whether i'm going to have a problem with the fuel tank or not? I've checked ETKA for the parts numbers to compare them, but the exploded diagram shows loads of little parts and i got a bit lost. As far as i can work out, both tanks are the same, but could someone with more knowledge on this issue shed some light onto this for me please
Also, is there anything else i'm gonna have to watch out for with this kind of conversion?
cheers guys
Lee.

i like the idea with the rope for the driveshafts, that'd make it a lot easier to move mine round the unit
