FIT TWIN CARBS TO 1.8 ?????how and why????????????

Hi all, if i have a 1.8gti (soon, very soon) and decide to fit twin webber carbs, what benefits are there for doing this? does it sound a lot throatier and is there a power increase? do i have to change anything electrically?
how hard is this to do? and do they come already set up for the fuel/air mixture?
Cheers dudes. :D

Twin carbs on an 8V never quite work out, because they are directly above the exhaust manifold and tend to suffer from heatsoak.

power increase?

Nothing over fuel injection, they're done for show (cleans up the engine bay) or for the technical challenge/sake of it. I suppose over around 180bhp they can give gains, over & above K-Jet.

find yourself a DCD Weber (Down Draft) its the brother to a sidey! except the fuel bowl is on the side of the card! it has a very similer design to a side! I have a 8v 1.8 as well..fitted a 28/36 DCD and oh man wat a difference it made! i couldnt belive how quick my pull away is and responsive the car is! you got to find out wat the write jetting is for the carb.. once that is done you can play around with it.. my fuel 1st was 120 and 2nd was 140.. so i up'd the 1st to 140 and 2nd to 150.. it increased my top end big time!! of course my fuel but wats the fun in running lean!!

The best mod i have done so far.. and that carb i put on came standard with a 2.5 Chev!!

So…

Hope that gives you more of and idea????

Any rolling road figures, or 1/4 mile and 0-60mph times (done at a recognisable facility)?

Nice time! I think a stock GTI is 16.4 or thereabouts. What other mods have been done to achieve that too,or was it all down to the carbs?

ok.. to put you in the picture.. she was a 1600.. drop a valve bend another and cracked the head.. so motor was opend..block redone and board to 1800 (1798cc) an 1800 8v GTI head put on with the standard cam form the head.. alone with the carb, preformance plugs and leads, 60mm down pipe into 57mm freeflow.. its really not much at all but she runs like a mother F***** i was very very very surprised and amazed at the times! i have run (remember im from South Africa) Mk3 GTI (taken out) Mk1 CTI (Taken out) And the 1.6i Velocity (claimed to be the quickest standard Mk1 brought to SA) have taken out.. so she reali has got the potential for more! Thats why we working on the head now.. the bottom end has been done (for now) I am wanting to work the head and Polish the intake.. all the small things. Our quickest Golf in SA runs a 10.2 Quater Mile.. Thats Impressive!! Thats Why i love the Car..It has the ability to become a monster! and im sure you all will agree with me!!

I had a 1600i 2001 Toyota Tazz.. she ran a 16.7 and that was with only a back silencer replaced!!! and my golf runs away from it.. but top end the tazz comes and gets the golf…. so its all weird and fun at the end of the day

There are other motors that the sidedrafts can be attached too. The 16 valve is the best way to go for the amount of flow. The cross flow 8v are pretty good too. And are really easy to set up and get cams for.

As far as Webbers go. 40DCOE are going to give you good mid range punch. If your planning to drag race it and don't mind loosing some mid range, you could consider 45DCOE. The side drafts are really awsome sounding and very reliable and easy to tune once set up right. There is lots of information avalible on what you need to put in them as far as jets and airbleeds are concerned.

I've seen motors built on the ABA block and 8 vlave head with sidedrafts. This motor I belive has the oil jets in it to help keep everything lubed at high speed. So in that respect it's a lot like the G60 or the new 1.8T.

Good luck
