Exhausts

I have a 1983 Mk1 Golf GX 1.5 and want to get an exhaust.  At the moment I am looking at going for a custom tailpipe (RSR powerflow) which will hopefully make it sound nice without being too loud and make a small difference to the performance.  But does anybody know any exhausts tailpipes or systems which will fit, sound nice without being too loud and give a good performance upgrade.
