engine upgrade?

i'm having to face up to the fact that i've now got to dump my current 1.8 dx engine as it's had it.
am considering the possibility of perhaps putting something abit bigger in it's place. has anyone got any suggestions as to what engine i can throw in with as little hassle as possible (i'm gonna be doing this myslef), i'm not looking to break any speed records just fancy a bit more poke…..or should i just replace with another dx??
