:D hello just a quickie would a 1.8t engine go into my mk1 gti and if so whats required to fit and run cheers..its the same engine in the audi skoda and vw...

i have been in touch with some tuners and they can do the following
1. g60 conv exclud exhaust ?3500 supplied by them and fitted
2. 20v turbo ?5000 supplied and fitted by them exclud exhaust
3.audi s3 ?7000 supplied and fitted by them exclud exhaust

I am just doing the conversion myself. Its not that dear if you shop around. Mine will have cost me approx ?3200 to put the engine in but I got a loom and ecu from QPE the engine from a firm that rebuild and tune them (MINE CAME FROM A WRITE OFF) the intercooler from X Power and the pipe work from various motor factors. I have an s3 engine which cost me ?1340 after a bit of negotiation and paying cash + I got all the loom and ecu with it as well. I have decided to change the loom and ecu to the QPE as it makes life a lot easier and I can use all the switches and clocks from the mk1. Blue flame do an exhaust down pipe which mates to the mk1 exhaust (?170) and im sure QPE do one now. I am using a gearbox from a 16v golf as they are ok with the power from what I understand but have both a g60 and 6 speed box as a fall back which, incidently are a headache to fit. Here are some links for you to have a look at. If you are planning to uprate the brakes, there are 2 options I looked at. One is a fim in Canada but looked on ebay and there is an english firm who sell the same kit for about ?50 more.

Have a look at these and add everything up. You should be able to pick up an engine and box for ?1500 but the 16v box is a far easier option just not as strong so I may end up eating my hat. Cheers

On the gearbox front, I have seen MG Montego's/Meastro and Rover's using the gti box with 200+ bhp and no problems etc. Im not 100% sure if it is the same box but a couple of people have said the 16v box will be fine.

the montego and maestro box were made by vw it will bolt straight up :lol:  :lol:

i think the gearing will be the same as a 8v ish unless it was a montego turbo box then your good for a 150mph top end :o  :o

8v seat box is stronger beleive it or not that the 16v not sure why just heard that was the case
