Dilemma - 2.0l 16V or G60?
I've done a lot of reading around and I have a good idea of the parts required for a 2.0l 16V, also I understand that the advantages are that it gives good torque, as well as decent (top end) power, so even a tuned motor retains good driveability.
But, the G60 also gives similar levels of performance, a different way. I know that a G60 would need a bit more in its wiring (electronic engine management, rather than K-Jet) and also you need to find space for extra pipework and the intercooler.
I have a ballpark figure of 175bhp (flywheel), which is easily achievable on the 2.0l 16V using a ported and polished head, balanced bottom end, 4 branch exhaust manifold and 2.5" exhaust and the KR inlet cam.
Thoughts anyone?

how about a 1.8t with megga squirt? should get more than 175bhp, and loads of tourque.
I'd avoided turbo because I don't like the way they drive, I wanted to retain as much low down torque and driveability as possible. Also, I don't think I'd be able to afford this kind of conversion, for example how much do 1.8T engines start at? I know that Megasquirt is a logical way to go though, around ?300 and it avoids a lot of hassle trying to wire up the later cars ECU and dash, etc to the Mk1.

im biased but G60 defo, the sound, low down torque. just keep on top of the servicing ie regular oil and filter changes esp, use quantum silver as people say fully synthetic is too thin and can get passed the seals in the charger. How about seeing if you can get a go in each type of conversion too !!
Any offers for a ride in a G60 and 2.0l 16V? in the NW Area???

I would personally go for a 2l 16v on megasquirt…

How about a 2.0 16v G60?! Use an 8v bottom end with a 16v top end (will lower compression) and get a supercharger on… Have a look for eaton chargers as they are much cheaper than the g-lader units by all accounts…

I've considered building it all up as a 2l 16v, then adding ignition control (eg MegaJolt) which would allow me to run a bigger advance, yet avoid pinking by mapping around it. I read on another forum there was a guy who saw 10-15bhp gains by advancing the ignition, but it was pinking really badly at certain points.

Soome good info in those links… Pretty tempted. Got to get it on the road with the 1.6 in first though. I nearly bought an audi 16v off ebay for ?150 yesterday for the 6a engine but the g/f would have spat her dummy out at that!

I used the mk1 airbox and just swopped the top bit over, as they are a straight swop (on KR anyway).
Also, fuel lines need moving, i replaced mine.
