Difference between Mk1 1800 8v and Mk2 1800 8v

Hi, I have seen an uprated mk2 1800 engine for sale. The crankshaft bearings have gone on my current 1800 DX engine, so am looking for something to replace it.

What are the differences between the DX and the mk2 1800 K-jet?? Would my inlet and exhaust manifolds fit on to it?? If it's an easy fit I will probably go for it!

Thanks

Anthony.

Anthony - if it is a K - jet it is probably a DX block also so will go straight in on your exhaust and inlet (inlet should be virtually the same)

I'd find out what block it is.

Cool!  Thanks for that!

Judging by looking at the pictures, it looks like mine.  I'll put an offer on it!

If this helps, fitted a later GTI lump to mine once (whenit went bang   ). Engine went straight in on the MK1 inlet and exhaust manifolds, make sure you swap the dizzy over from yours as well.

The main thing to look for on the MK2 engine is the injectors on later engines are different size to the MK1, but you used to be able to buy adpators to step the hole down to the right size.

So if it is an ealry K-jet MK2, should ba straight forward day fit job

Hopefully should be a day job!  Shame the days are so short at the moment, though!
