This wouldn't be a big improvement, which is why, to make use of the extra capacity, you need to use the GTI head, as it flows better, and has more sporty cams. (The original Audi set-up is more geared to family motoring)
I have an Audi 2.0 16v (ACE engine) with 140bhp, but I am about to fit the cams from the Golf Mk2 GTI 16v (KR engine), which I'm told should give about 10bhp more.

how do i know which gti engine ive got mine is a 83 gti cabrio.
if its only 3bhp then theres not much point really is there. may as well just spend the time and money on cams n stuff

If you use the GTI head, you will get a lot more than just 3 extra bhp, but I'm not sure how much, however using GTI cams on my Audi engine should give me an extra 10bhp, so there's a guide…
With the relatively restrictive head (1.8 flow on 2.0 block), you should get loads of torque, so acceleratio should be good - bhp is most useful in looking at top speed (which you can't use).

still sounds like an interesting option.

You need a stage 1 head and fast raod cam at the very least to get the power gains
just putting a cam in on its own won't do much tbh
