I have been driving it for 2 weeks now. I use the Caddy every day.
The weighting very light - almost too light but you get used to it. Its a lot better than struggling without it. It would be very hard to go back now.
I've had no problems as yet & I dont really forsee any - if anything the mounts are over engineered just to be on the safe side.
As for doing a kit I have been asked if I could make it completely bolt on - it could be done but the cost would go through the roof. A completely new pedal box would be needed with a new clutch pedal - out of my league really as I dont have the time.
I cant imagine there would be enough demand for a kit if it cost hundreds of pounds.
If enough people were interested I suppose I could strip mine out & measure up the front bracket & make some & maybe do the cutting & bracing of the pedal box, cut & shut on the U/J & column on an exchange basis. It would still cost though as its quite time consuming. Took me 2 weeks of evening & weekends to work it all out plus some time at work making the bits.
You would still however have to adjust & weld in the upper mounts yourself as there is nothing substantial to easily bolt them to. It could be done though - again cost v demand is a factor
If anyone is interested then please e mail me. If you want to come & have a look or need some more info just shout.

wasnt there an article about this in practical performance mag a couple of months ago? ,hats of to ya for getting it working  :D

think this is going to catch on big time with other non ps cars as well ,think you would be suprised what people would pay for this as a diy conversion ,i reckon ?350 would be cheap for power steering on any car.

only thing is the wife will want to drive your mark 1 as she will be able to park it .

Hey Jamie
so you did it then - looks good but the bolts through the bulkhead look a bit small. Are they 6mm (they ought to be 8mm) or is it just the picture.
What about some mounts to pick up on the angled casting at the top of the Corsa column but below the VW cut & shut.
Are you going to doo them or leave it? I'm not sure whether they are need but I felt better doing them.
I intend to make a cover to cover the hole that you will have to cut in the storage tray that fits below the steering wheel. As soon as I hve machined up a mould tool & made one I will contact you via this site. I will do you it for free as you have got off your arse & done the mod!!
Wont be for a while as I am trying to juggle time - holidays on my bike & paint for the Caddy whilst still driving it every day.
As soon as I have made the cover I will update my website too.
I imagine now you have done it you realise how hard it would be to make a bolton kit at a realistic price?
