converting mk1 golf in to a van.....?

right i didnt know where to post this so here goes… i've recently got a ban on my licience so i have a bit of time to finish my mk1, thing is its going to cost me around £3000 mark to insure it and its only a 1.1! so i've been doing some insurance quotes and vans seem to be dirt cheap! i've been hunting for a mk2 golf van for a while now and had no luck and i was wondering if i could take my rear side windows out weld them in and class it as a van and get around it that way? if anyone knows anything about this it would be a great help or knows of a mk2 van?

It won't say van on the log book, so the insurance may not fall for it.

Not to sure these days, you used to be able to get them reclassified, but it used to mean transported to DVLA and 50 50 chance it went on a Q plate.
but it has been a while since i tried.

ahh really! guess i'll just have to keep looking for a mk2 golf van then
