coilover ?

hi  just a quick question ive  just brought some cheapie coiliovers off ebay and fitted them the weekend is  the small spring at the bottom  of the coilover supposed to be  fully compressed and would it hurt when driving any help would be appreciated cheers  

show us a pic i think youll find its the helper spring so should be fine :wink:

aint got a picture but its  just the smaller spring of the two i think ive fitted them right  its  just  the   rear ones i was more worried about

helper spring bud. there to stop the springs bouncing about.

bet their silver red and blue!!  mine are wound all the way down on the back too, they seem to run ok, i might raise them up a tad but im sure they will be fine.  the bottom springs can be wound tight enough to take the slack out of them, with no dramas.  enjoy the ride……

I was wondering about that lower spring being compressed too, the rear is pretty much fully compressed and it still needs to come up more at the back.

I've had a bit of trouble with the fronts though, how much clearance did you have between the strut and the wheel/tyre? and what wheels/tyres are you running?

im running 15" and my clearance is fine, i can run my hand between the tyre and bodywork  however i am on a camber the tops towing in, so it's not a true reading as if they were straight, i havnt got the tracking / camber done yet so dont truly know, to be fair they seem pretty stiff so i will set the height so i can just poke a screwdriver between the tyre and bodywork   thats the fronts.  as for the rears, mine sit up in the arce and the spring is fully at the bottom of the shock, i will wind them up on teh weekend to get a bit more clearance as i can just about get a small screwdriver between the tyre and bodywork,  i was advised to run bumbshocks on the rear, inbteween the top of the shock and the underside of bodywork / arch just to give an extra 10 or so mill but i didnt bother, i am sticking to 15" and i will wind them up so there is a small gap, it's all about looks / handling and at the end of the day driveability!!  hope that helped in some way!!
