They do exist and are still available new….
Only problem is that they crop up on German e-bay. Budget for ?500 and you`ll get a pair! 8O

Try http://www.volkswarenhaus.de/ (Type-17.de). They still do repro items. My mate got a quote the other day for about ?385 i think for complete bumpers (Inludes hangers, endcaps and bump strips).
On the right hand menu, there is a box where you can select "English"
Probably worth giving them a ring. My mate did, so they must speak english!

I picked up a set the other day along with a load of other 76 bits
The chrome is pitted and rough and holed in one place.
Was considering chopping the rear up to make a caddy rear bumper set
Are they possible to restore or worth saving for a golf resto?

So the problem is with the chrome?
Is the actual metalwork acceptable? :dontknow:

If you can get it chromed cheap enough, then deffinately worth keeping. If the actual steel is pitted though, I don't know if it is repairable as it will show in the chrome. I suppose you could weld up all the pits and grind/sand smooth?!? :dontknow:

The metal work is a bit of a mess, borderline salvageable I'd say…
I mean, I wouldn't bother with them, but I also wouldn't consider paying ?385 for a set either! 8O

Add to the bumpers four end caps (Think the are 25euros each) plus rubbing strips and hanging brackets (They are different to your current ones, though you could mod your current ones if you are that way inclined...), so your total is not quite right... It soon mounts up!

regcheeseman, paint them up instead, my plan is to find some old ones as and when they appear (no rush) and paint them black 8).

Black is the original Gti spec. I think the German company in the link earlier on sells them in black too...

Was going to get the brackets made for me. So they'll cost em nothing. Didn't think about the end caps tho Mine has water washer type things on the bumper already, debating whether to take them off and put em on chrome.

Give Volkswarenhaus a ring (ask for axel who speaks great english) he'll tell you about the bumpers. They told me that the parts are made using tooling copied from the orignals and are plated by the same firm that carried out the orignial plating, which all sounds good to me.
I think the rubbing strip is included in the price with the chromed bumpers but not with the painted ones (check first).
I moaned about the type17 part of the website not being in english, he said they were about to sort it. 8)
