changing my mk1 golf from carb to injection???

:o hi guys i have a mk1 1.5 carb and i also have a 1.8 8v gti engine and bits.

im thinking i wan2 do the swap. but before i go spanner in hand was wondering if anyone knew how difficult it was. i know fuel system and wiring loom has to be changed but can anyone enlighten me to what exactly else has to be changed and level of difficulty.

is it worth the effort??????

It isn't worth the effort - buy a GTi.

You need to change gearbox, cooling system, fuel lines, fuel tank, fuel pump, brakes, suspension, ARBs, wheels/tyres, engine loom….

It will probably cost more to insure as a modded car too and be worth less come selling time

Just do it mate you obviously love your car but want it to be a bit quicker so why not just go for it? You'll get to know your car inside and out and when it's done you can stand back and say "I did that" .then you can get a decal that says built not brought lol

while i am not sure of your end aims i would say do it, the 1800 gti on properly functioning k-jet is a delight, starts easily, economical and reasonably fast, better results than any carburettor will give you.

i thought of doing this to my 1.3 citi, but boring the engine to a 1.8 myself highlift low D cams etc - and then geting a donnor mk2 to rob the digifant from (not telling insurance) so i could have a 1.8 gti with a 0 milage engine ….

but again it is a hassle the plans to use a 1.9tdi mk3 engine insurance is £700 cheaper than it was on the 1.3 carb!!!

why not just bore the 1.5 to a 2l (involves changing the crank but possible)  and run bike carbs, you could declare the carbs and no one would be any the wiser.

yes decided to keep the car as 1.5 tempted to add the bike carbs though. how much are they, difficult to fit?? will fuel consumption go through the roof?? this car is a cabriolet and have another hard top shell which i might through a bit of money at and produce a real head turner, do it for fun rather than a must do.
