changing ignition barrel??

hi people, i am doing a mk2 dash conversion into my mk1 cab inc the stalk etc,
i have the mk2 ignition barrel but cant figure out how to get the other ignition barrel off, can anyone help me at all?
the mk2 barrel is from a 1990 gti 16v and my mk1 is a 1990 clipper cab (dunno if this makes any difference watsoever! lol)
any help would be greatly appreciated,

Remove steering wheel,
Remove switches/stalks
Disconnect wires
Remove spline adaptor - puller or air chisel needed
Remove bolt holding ign barrel
Gent tap barrel up the column

Are you changing the whole lock unit so you can fit the later mk2 stalks?

I'm doing this on my cab and the locating tab that aligns the barrel   assembly on the colomb needs to be cut and rewelded further round, otherwise your mk2 stalks will be at an angle. Unless someone knows of a better way to do it.

yes im changing everything to fit the later mk2 stalks, so i have to cut and re-weld the locating tab further round the column so the stalk sit straight?
