You can fit anything into a Mk1, if you have enough time, money, resources etc. How much of these do you have?

great advice

thanks very much. the questions is a big one. i dont have the money but i work 18 hours a day only for reason to fix my mk1.

as for time i dont have none but ya got people i can trust to give me a hand.

as for resources i have friends all over the world so getting the parts together should not be so much of a problem.

would it be possible for you to advice in detail how i can convert to a v8 engine but i want to keep the carb. is that possible. can u suggest a make of engine that would be the best. would be obliged.

best regards

Not really, things like V8 engine are not the normal conversion so you're likely to have to plan it out, overcome engineering obstacles, get parts made up yourself or fabricated, and of course pay for it all, yourself. There is no "guide" to putting a V8 engine in, other than people offering vague opinions (I can supply these if needed though!!!!!)

Basically, on any engine conversion (or indeed, normal remove/replacement work) the devil is in the detail. For something like a 2.0 8V engine conversion, there are relatively few changes to be made so being able to provide a complete list of the detail required, is not too difficult over a forum or guide. 16V requires more work, so the complete details of what's different or special, compared to a simple job of removing and replacing the same engine, is more lengthy. If someone were to undertake a 16V engine conversion with absolutely NO pre-existing knowledge, they could complete it, but only by doing a lot of reading around on the topic, and possibly clarifying things by asking questions and answers (and there's lots of people who have done it, so its not too hard to find someone who can advise). They'd also need to be fairly confident at getting stuck in with mechanical work and adapting things to make them work, where they were never standard. For example, searching through and comparing part numbers to find a particular combination of parts which would work together and solve a problem. A 20vT engine conversion is a step up again - even more details/differences, ultimately less people to call upon with the required knowhow.

A V8 or indeed anything over & above transverse 4 cyl EA827 based engine, will need EVEN more details, and EVEN LESS people will be able to help you out!!!!

Having said that there's a few people who have started V8 conversions on Mk1 Golfs, although the engine went in the back, not front, I think. vwvortex would be a good place to seek info. Also, someone has put a transverse V8 into a Mk2 Golf, again in the USA and not here.

By all means if there's someone with a V8 eninged Golf - now's your chance to let us all know how it was done!
