Cabrio Conv

I love my cabriolet but it's 1800 carb engine is a tad slow, I thinking of a conversion to a 16v, but need advice! What engine out of what car? Whats involved to do this on a cab! Any tips would be great or links to other projects. Be gentle i'm a forum virgin!!!!
