Budget Trackday ideas please

I'll keep it short and sweet guys - got a bog standard 1983 1.8 DX GTi that has a fairly young (30k max) replacement engine in it. Looking to mod the cars mechanicals - on a budget - so that it goes, handles and stops a lot better than it does currently……..ANY IDEAS PLEASE?? It's already got front strut brace, power rohr and a polybush kit (to be fitted).

Suggestions on brake set up, exhaust/engine mods and suspension kits please. I know you lot won't let me down - cheers in advance, Mike.

Make sure everything is in good order. Inspect all the bushes/top mounts for wear. Bleed the brakes (replacing any worn parts) and replace the fluid with fresh DOT 5.1 or similar.

Give the engine a good service, fresh oil, filters and ignition components can never go a miss. I often run some Redex through my golf for peace of mind.

Im sure someone will be able to offer much more than this but I just thought id add my 2P.

Cheers.

depends on budget.

i'd spend the money in this order.

general health
tyres
brakes
suspension/chassis
engine

bear in mind, the cheapest way to make the car faster, is to make it lighter.
as said your budget really is the key here

My 2 pence worth would be to sort the chassis first, then the brakes, then the engine. No good having 5000 bhp and a chassis that can't cope and brakes that can't stop you!

first thing i did to my old mk1 before wanging it round a track was fit a baffled sump and windage tray (tray from a mk3 diesel)

not worth the risk of wiping out your engine as it will cost you more in the long run.   karl
